Bhante Mudita Bhikkhu Thera

Founder and Spiritual Head of Arahanist Order of Canada

Founding Ācariya of Arahanism — The Liberation Path of Gautama, the Supreme Arahant

“The path is not merely to be studied or admired; it is to be walked, moment by moment, toward the Deathless.”

A Calling to the Original Liberation Teaching

Bhante Mudita Bhikkhu Thera is a Canadian Theravāda monk, meditation teacher, and founding Ācariya of Arahanism—the Liberation Path of Gautama, the Supreme Arahant. His work is guided by a religious calling to preserve Gautama’s original liberation teaching, restore the central purpose of renunciation, and guide dedicated practitioners towards Arahantship and complete liberation from the world.

Rooted in the Theravāda monastic tradition, Arahanism seeks to preserve Gautama’s true teaching of liberation that remain within Theravāda while critically examining later doctrinal and practical developments that have obscured the true Dhamma. His mission as a Thera is to help purify the tradition and restore the attainment of Arahantship to the centre of religious practice.

Monastic Formation and Practice

Ordained in 2013 at Pa Auk Forest Monastery and Meditation Center in Myanmar, Bhante Mudita underwent intensive training in samatha–vipassanā meditation, Pāli Canon study, and strict monastic discipline. He subsequently spent another five years in the Thai forest, deepening his practice through solitude, simplicity, and sustained contemplative training.

This formation continues to shape his approach to teaching, which brings together scriptural study, systematic training, and direct meditative experience. For him, the Dhamma is not merely a body of doctrines to understand intellectually, but a path to be practised and realized through disciplined effort.

The Arahanist Path

At the heart of his teaching is the progressive training of Sīla, Samādhi, and Paññā.

  • Sīla is the training in moral discipline and progressive withdrawal from worldly entanglements through the observance of precepts and the cultivation of renunciation.
  • Samādhi is the cultivation of a concentrated and elevated mind, developing the capacity to move beyond ordinary dimensional sensory preoccupation.
  • Paññā is liberating wisdom that penetrates the nature of worldly bondage and clarifies the way to freedom.

This training addresses rāga (worldly craving and attachment), dosa (fear, anger, aversion, violence, and hatred), and moha (ignorance and delusion concerning the liberation path). Through nibbidā (disenchantment with the world) and virāga (fading of worldly passion), practitioners progress towards Vimutti, complete liberation from worldly bondage.

Arahanism emphasizes the practical progression from precept training to dedicated renunciation, meditation, and monastic life. Its purpose is not simply moral improvement or the attainment of elevated states within the world, but the realization of Arahantship and Nibbāna-dhātu, the Deathless realm beyond the world.

Spiritual Leadership and Arahanism Canada

As the founder and spiritual leader of Arahanist Order of Canada, Bhante Mudita is dedicated to lead a religious community centred on Gautama’s Liberation Path. His work encompasses spiritual guidance, progressive precept training and ordination, meditation, renunciant practice, and monastic formation, including the training and ordination of those who undertake the bhikkhu and bhikkhuni life.

His wider mission is to preserve the Liberation Path of Gautama, the Supreme Arahant, and to make its disciplined practice accessible to those sincerely seeking liberation. Through teaching, writing, and the development of an Arahanist community, he seeks to guide practitioners towards the direct realization of the Deathless realm.
